Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Mia said on Wednesday the BNP's claim to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi relating to Bangladesh democracy is baseless, reports BSS.
"Democracy exists in the country and it will continue. Awami League believes in democracy. BNP was born through military rule. How can they be able to understand democracy?" he said while speaking at a discussion meeting at National Press Club in the city.
Criticising the BNP's double standard policy relating to India, the Deputy Speaker said BNP had acted as friend of India whenever they were in state power, but they take anti-Indian stand when they are out of power.
He said the Land Boundary Agreement between Bangladesh and India is one of the great successes of the present government.
The Deputy Speaker expressed his gratitude to the Indian Prime Minister for his assurance to work together with Bangladesh in curbing terrorism and militancy.
Ebtedayee Madrasa Teachers Association organised the discussion demanding realisation of their wages as per the national pay scale.
