BNP will stage rallies in the capital and other divisional cities across the country on December 10, marking the International Human Rights Day, reports UNB.

Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement at a press briefing at its Nayapaltan central office on Monday.

"We've taken various programmes on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day expressing our solidarity with its spirit," he said.

As part of the programmes, the BNP leader said they will bring out a procession in the capital at 11am on December 10.

He said their party's all divisional city units will stage similar programme the same day on the occasion.

The Human Rights Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world marking the 71st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10 in 1948.

Rizvi said their party chairperson Khaleda Zia has long been deprived of her rights of getting bail from the court due to the government's 'foul play'.

He also alleged that the government is harassing Khaleda Zia in 'false and fabricated' cases by establishing its 'control' over the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

"People won't accept any more the harassment of Khaleda Zia. "We call upon the government not to obstruct her bail process. Take steps to free her immediately and thus allow her to receive treatment at a hospital of her choice," he added.
