BRTA files 6,150 cases in last 17 days: Quader

Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader said  Saturday Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has filed a total of 6,150 cases in the last 17 days' drive against unfit vehicles in highway and driving licence of driver, reports BSS.

Besides, the BRTA has realized Tk 4.9 million as fine and sent over 49 people to jail during the period, he said while addressing a roundtable discussion as chief guest. The roundtable was organised to mark the 22-year of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) at the conference room of the daily Jugantor.

Quader said there was a magistrate in BRTA office earlier, but now five magistrates have been appointed while process of appointment of more is under process.

He claimed that there was no 'transfer trade' in highway sector. "All kinds of transfer trade have been wiped-out from the sector," he claimed.

The minister said that he was trying his best to ensure road safety as well as ease traffic congestion in highway and city respectively.
