BRUR ex-VC Kalimullah sent to jail in graft case

A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, former vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), to jail in a graft case filed by the ACC.
Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain Galib, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Public Prosecutor Md Delwar Jahan Rumi confirmed the court order to the FE.
Earlier on the day, ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin Islam, also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted two petitions at the court, seeking Kalimullah's confinement in jail and travel ban on him and four others.
Responding, the court issued a travel ban on Prof Kalimullah, and the four: AKM Nurun Nabi, a former VC of BRUR, Jahangir Alam, former executive engineer of BRUR, and contractors Abdus Salam Bachchu and MM Habibur Rahman in connection with the case.
Around 4:00 PM, Prof Kalimullah was escorted to the courtroom amid tight security.
Earlier, a team of detectives arrested him from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area around 12:15 PM in connection with the graft case. Later, Prof Kalimullah was handed over to the ACC.
