BSF, BDR gunfire injure Indian cattle trader

JOYPURHAT, Sept 12 (UNB): Indian Border Security Force (BSF) exchanged gunfire with BDR jawans on Hatkhola border in Panchbibi Upazila of the district early Friday, which left an Indian cattle trader injured.
Babu Mondal, cattle trader of Fatehpur-Damiron village in Hili thana of south Dinajpur district in West Bengal, was injured when the border guards of two countries traded gunfire at Ghona Para at about 2:15 am.
BDR jawans rescued the injured trader and admitted him to the district Modern Hospital here in critical condition after he entered into Bangladesh territory in the dark.
A local BDR official said the BSF men of No. 28 Sidai camp fired three gunshots forcing the BDR jawans to reply with three gunshots.
The Indian cattle trader was wounded by the shots fired by BSF troops.
Meanwhile, BSF at a flag meeting with BDR on Hatkhola border at 12:20pm today (Friday) claimed they had to fire in self- defense.
However, they expressed ignorance about the Indian cattle trader, who was injured by their fire.
No decision was taken in the meeting about returning the injured Indian national Babu Mondal.
