June 10, 2018 00:00:00

BHOLA, June 09 (UNB): Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said on Saturday the recent national budget will benefit everyone, from the rich to the poor.

The minister came up with the remarks while speaking at a zakat distribution ceremony at Charsamia union in Sadar upazila.

He said investment and export will increase, alongside significant improvement in the country's communications system, healthcare and power sector development, which will generate 20,000 MG electricity by December.

The minister refuted BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed's recent statement about the proposed national budget placed in the parliament on June 7, saying that he (Moudud) did not go through the budget

properly.

"This budget was made with poverty alleviation and social security in mind," Tofail mentioned.

"The poverty level during BNP's tenure was 46 per cent but under the current government's rule, it came down to 22 per cent."

The BNP leader had cited the budget as a 'big blue balloon which is empty', it will not help ensure people's welfare as it was made only considering the next general election.

Tofail said the budget will act as a breakthrough to realise the country's seventh Five- Year Plan, which will help establish Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangla.

Chairman of Bhola Zila Parishad Abdul Momin Tulu, Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharraf Hossain, Vice Chairman Md Yunus, among others, were present on the

occasion.
