The by-election to 99 vacant posts of 97 Union Parishads (Ups) will be held on May 27, reports UNB.
The Election Commission (EC) Thursday issued a notification declaring the schedule of the by-polls in 97 UPs across the country's 46 districts.
The 99 vacant posts include 22 of chairman, 14 of reserved vice chairman and 63 of member.
District election officials concerned have been asked to take necessary measures for holding the by-elections in the upazilas, the lowest tier of the local government body, peacefully.
Meanwhile, the deadline for submission of nomination papers in 14 upazila parishads (UZs) across the country's 10 districts expired at 5.00 pm Thursday.
The EC on April 16 announced the election schedule for the upazilas fixing the voting for May 19.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 26 as the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 3.
The 14 upazilas are Kaunia, Gangachhara, Sadar and Pirgachha of Rangpur, Kamarkhand of Sirajganj, Taltali of Barguna, Rangabali of Patuakhali, Kalukhali of Rajbari, Bandar of Narayanganj, Gazipur Sadar, Basail of Tangail, Bijoynagar of Brahmanbaria and Adarsha Sadar and Sadar Dakkhin of Comilla.
Besides, the deadline for submission of nomination papers to contest the by-election to chairman post of Tarakanda Upazila in Mymensingh expired Thursday. The by-polls will also be held on May 19.
Earlier, the commission held elections in 459 upazilas out of the country's 487 in five phases between February 19 and March 31.
