Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Tuesday assured the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University that release of the detained teachers of the university would be considered on a priority basis.
"We are very optimistic about the return of the four captive teachers to classes very soon, as we have got firm assurance from the government in this regard", DU VC SMA Faiz told reporters back at the DU after calling on the CA and the Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed.
Faiz said the government would take all possible steps so that the detained teachers and students of the university can come back.
He, however, asserted that the university authorities would never think about release of those students who were involved in the August 20-22 violence outside the DU campus.
In reply to a query, the DU VC said that he had discussed the overall situation of the university with the Chief Adviser and the Army Chief in a very friendly environment.
Students' accommodation problem, higher education and research, scholarships, allotment of residences for teachers, construction of Maolana Bhasani Hall and inauguration of the newly-built DU senate office were the other key issues of discussion.
