CA hails WIEF's first regional confce to be held in city Nov 5

Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Thursday welcomed and assured all support from his government for holding the first regional conference of World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), the economic face of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), in the city on November 5-6, reports UNB.
The remarks came when a delegation of the WIEF led by its Chairman and former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Musa Hitam made a courtesy call on the CA at his office in the city and sought Bangladesh's support to the two-day conference.
Hitam briefed Ahmed about the upcoming WIEF conference saying large business delegations from Muslim and non-Muslim countries are expected to participate in the conference where Bangladesh business community would get opportunity to showcase their business potential.
He said the European Union (EU) and South Africa also showed interest in participating in the WIEF meet.
The CA termed the WIEF as a good forum and said the conference would open up windows of business opportunities as well as business challenges for the Southeast Asia region.
Ahmed expressed the hope that the regional conference would be effective in exchanging views and exploring business possibilities in the region.
He stressed the need for proper utilisation of resources in the region. The WIEF emerged under the umbrella of the OIC through its first meeting in 2005 in Kuala Lumpur.
Hitam informed that the WIEF has a Nursing Training Programme in Malaysia where Bangladeshi women are availing of the opportunity.
The WIEF chairman said there is also a youth entrepreneur programme, which offer scholarship for higher education and Bangladesh can avail the opportunity as well.
Referring to Bangladesh's business and investment potential, the former Malaysian deputy prime minister emphasised on visit by high level delegations between Bangladesh and Malaysia for tapping the business potential for the benefit of the two peoples.
Responding, the CA said his government is also thinking in the similar way.
