CA sees scope for boosting trade, economic ties with Pyongyong

Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Thursday said there are scopes to further enhance relations in the field of trade and commerce between Bangladesh and North Korea, reports UNB.

He emphasised on identifying new areas of cooperation through discussion among experts of the two countries.

The head of the caretaker government (CG) expressed the views when outgoing Ambassador of North Korea in Dhaka Mun Song Mo made a farewell call on the CA at his office.

During the meeting, they discussed trade and commerce and other matters of mutual interest.

The North Korean Ambassador appreciated the CA's leadership and guidance towards peace and stability in Bangladesh. He particularly lauded Fakhruddin's initiative to have good relations with the ASEAN countries and its neighbours.

The CA said Bangladesh under its 'Look East Policy' gives more importance to the ASEAN countries.

Bangladesh, he said, attaches importance in strengthening the existing bilateral relations with North Korea.

The North Korean diplomat said Bangladesh and North Korea support each other in various international forums, including NAM and the United Nations (UN).

He said Korea is one of the countries who gave early recognition to the independence of Bangladesh and Korea attaches importance to its relations with Bangladesh.

Mun Song Mo conveyed the best wishes and greetings of the North Korean leader and its Prime Minister to the CA.

The CA also conveyed best wishes and greetings to the North Korean leader and Prime Minister.

CA's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim, who was present at the meeting, later briefed the newsmen.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Ambassador of DPRK said Bangladesh is an important global actor and Korea would like to see closer ties with it.

The North Korean envoy also said the CG was moving forward in the right direction and expressed the hope that the country would continue to remain "peaceful and stable".

He praised the country's current policy of building stronger links with Asian countries and hoped that Bangladesh would contribute to regional peace and development.

Mun Song Mo expressed the views when he made a farewell call on Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at his office.
