Cabinet approves Hajj policy

Cabinet on Monday approved the Hajj Package 2011 amending the National Hajj Policy 1431-1435 Hijri (2010-2014), reports UNB.
Hajj will be performed this year on November 6, subject to the sighting of the Zilhaj Moon, when around 0.12 million pilgrims from Bangladesh are expected to perform the Hajj.
Chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, the cabinet meeting considered that some 15,000 pilgrims will go under the government management while the rest under private arrangement.
Officials said in accordance with the new hajj package 2011, about Tk 0.29 million will be required by each pilgrim to go under government management of which Tk 0.26 million to be deposited with the prescribed bank and the rest of Tk 30,000 to be carried by the pilgrim for his/her personal expenses.
Under private management, the pilgrims would require to deposit Tk 0.133 million to the government authority.
Meanwhile, according to the new package, air fare for all pilgrims has been fixed at Tk 0.11 million and house rent around Tk 0.19 million.
The government has also decided that there would be one guide for every 45 pilgrims while transports would be arranged for those pilgrims who would stay at least two kilometers away from the Haram Sharif.
The cabinet meeting also approved in principle the draft of the Bangladesh Rubber Board Bill 2011 providing for setting up National Rubber Board to look after farming of rubber across the country.
The meeting was also informed of Colombo Declaration adopted in third ministerial meeting of UNESCO Forum of Ministers, Food Minister's visit to Ukraine and Education Minister's visit to the Maldives.
