CHITTAGONG, Mar 22 (BSS): Speakers at a seminar here Sunday underscored the need for maintaining transparency and abiding by local and international trade-related laws during export transactions with foreign buyers to boost exports and brighten the image of the country.
They remarked that well-prepared and synchronised trade documents in the process of export-import trade were an important precondition to satisfy foreign buyers and suppliers as well as help significantly expand the export market abroad.
The opinions came at a seminar titled "Preparation of export documents" held in the conference room of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Sunday morning.
The CCCI and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Chittagong, jointly organised the seminar.
President of the CCCI MA Latif, MP, attended the seminar as the chief guest while Assistant Director of the EPB Golam Mostafa was in the chair. Senior Vice-President of the CCCI MA Salam spoke as the special guest while Director of EPB Abdur Rahman presented the keynote paper on the topic.
Around 50 representatives from various banks, export firms and financial institutions participated in the seminar.
Addressing the seminar, MA Latif said exporters were facing numerous difficulties in preparing export-related documents through banks which would ultimately hamper the export and tarnish the image of the country.
He also said, "We have a large workforce but lack in skilled manpower."
Referring to the significant economic development of China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan, the CCCI president said strict compliance with the laws and preference for the choice of the buyers helped the countries to achieve such a tremendous growth in the short span of time.
MA Latif urged bank officials and other authorities concerned to serve the exporters with cooperative attitudes and avoid the bureaucratic complicacies.
In the keynote paper, Abdur Rahman said any uncourteous approach to buyers will lead to damaging reputation of the respective company and the image of the country.
He urged the exporters not to agree to any business transaction or deal, which may directly or indirectly go against the country's interest.
