Sammilita Samajik Andolon, a platform to move forward the cause of civil society in Bangladesh, organised the rally in front of the National Museum in the city Friday.

They also called for arrest and punishment to the killers of expatriate writer and blogger Avijit Roy.

Presided over by Sammilita Samajik Andolan president Ajoy Roy, also Avijit's father, the rally was also addressed by Oikya NAP president Pankaj Bhattacharya and noted economist MM Akash.

Criticising the governmet's role in curbing violence, Pankaj Bhattacharya said it failed to arrest the killers and masterminds.

Describing the killing of Avijit Roy an attempt by militant and fanatic forces, Prof MM Akash said there is no place of such militants and fanatics in Bangladesh.
