November 12, 2007 00:00:00

RAJSHAHI, Nov 11 (BSS): Speakers at a view-sharing meeting underscored the need for taking collective efforts to make the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act effective.
They expressed their apprehension that if the law failed to achieve its objective, the consequence would be terrible.
So all concerned including the law enforcing agencies and legal practitioners should be more careful in this connection, they said. Local unit of Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST) arranged the meeting at the bar association building here Saturday aiming at raising awareness among the people.
Judge of the Special Tribunal AKM Sirajul Islam spoke in the meeting as the chief guest with local BLAST President Mainul Ahsan Panna in the chair.
Local bar President Mujibur Rahman Talukder and Civil Surgeon Dr Golam Mourtoza spoke on the occasion.
Discussants observed that many false cases were being lodged under the act with an ulterior motive of harassing opponents.
Importance should be given to eliminating the trend through creating mass awareness.
