Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad Thursday urged the country's satellite TV channels to telecast more child-friendly programmes to help develop the latent talents of the future generation.
"Electronic and print media can educate children easily through their programmes. It also can play a vital role in eliminating child labour, child-marriage and all sorts of crimes against children from the society," said the minister.
His comment came during a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Under-standing (MoU) between UNICEF and three private TV channels--ATN Bangla, Desh TV and Somoy Television to telecast free 'One Minute' children's programme at a city hotel.
ATN Bangla chairman Mahfuzur Rahman, Desh TV Managing Director Asaduzzaman Noor, Somoy Television Executive Officer Ahmed Jubaer and UNICEF country representative Carel de Rooy signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions in presence of the minister.
Carel de Rooy said these TV channels agreed to telecast free 'One Minute' for children's affairs including their rights, healthcare and education under their Corporate Social Responsi-bility (CSR).
