Case against Amar Desh acting editor dismissed

Metropolitan magistrate court Wednesday dismissed a defamation suit against Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of daily Amar Desh, and others as the plaintiff remained conspicuous from the court during hearing for three consecutive days. Abdul Malek, president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the suit. He had submitted that daily Amar Desh published a report on 17 December 2009 accusing Shajib Wajed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Taufiq-E-Elahi, Energy Advisor of taking heavy bribe from Chevron, a foreign oil company. -- UNB
