CHITTAGONG, Apr 20 (BSS): Ruling Awami League (AL)-blessed mayoral candidate AJM Nasir Uddin said on Monday he will turn the city into modern, healthy and business-friendly one, if elected.
Nasir said this while addressing street rallies at the city's Patherghata, Bongshal road, Bundle road areas in the morning.
Nasir pledged to resolve the miseries of the residents from long-standing water logging problem of the port city.
Later, Nasir conducted mass-contact in many areas of the city, exchanged views with the people and sought their blessings.
AL leaders including Nurul Islam BSc., Mofizur Rahman, Khurshed Alam Sujan were seen visiting different areas of the city seeking vote for Nasir Uddin.
" I give you my word that Nasir will be able to remove water logging problem in the city and turn the city into a modern metropolis....there is no alternative to Nasir," said Nurul Islam BSc, adding that the outgoing mayor failed to play his due role in the last five years.
BNP-backed mayoral candidate M Manjur Alam said he served the city dwellers in his five-year tenure as the mayor rising above political affiliation. "I, not as mayor but as the servant, want to serve the city residents if I am re-elected," said Manjur while conducting mass-contact in Chaktai, Khatunganj areas.
He claimed a total of Tk 9.0 billion was spent for city's development in last five years, which was more than the amount spent during the last 20 years.
Alam sought reelection to continue the development works which he initiated in his tenure for Chittagong city.
