The High Court (HC) has asked Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda to explain why action should not be initiated against him for violating a previous court order, reports bdnews24.com. The bench of justices Mohammad Ashfaqul Islam and Moazzam Hossain passed the ruling Tuesday after the Election Commission declared Habibur Rahman Malek as the uncontested mayor of Pirojpur municipality. The HC issued the rule following a petition filed by Mohammad Nasiruddin, a candidate, who later opted out of the mayoral race. The court also asked five others, including the mayor-declared Habib, to defend their actions and reply within two weeks. The other four are Barisal Divisional Commissioner Abu Hena Mohammad Rahmatul Munim, Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Moni-ruzzaman and local government deputy director Tarafdar Sohel Rana.
