Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda Tuesday handed over new constituency maps to President M Zillur Rahman by paying a call on him at Bangabhaban, reports BSS.
The Election Commission (EC) has recently delimited the country's constituency map with a view to maintaining a fair distribution of population in each of 300 constituencies for ensuring proper representation of voters.
During the meeting, the President expressed his satisfaction over the EC's role in preparing the new constituency maps.
The President urged the EC to ensure strict transparency and neutrality in holding all national and local government polls in future.
"An independent EC is a must to play significant role in institutionalising country's democracy," the President said.
Huda apprised the President about different features of the new constituency maps and said everyone including politicians, journalists, academics and researchers would also be benefited by the information of the new maps.
