The eligible voters in the city who failed to fill up voter registration forms in September last, there is still a chance for them to be voters, reports UNB.
Those want to get enlisted as voters will have to turn up with necessary documents at voter registration centres in different parts of the city, said an Election Commission press release Sunday.
The necessary documents are SSC certificate, birth certificate, citizen certificate, photocopy of parents' National ID Cards or the numbers of their Identity Cards, and the copies of utility service bills.
On September 1, the EC started updating the voter list in the capital city, including the Cantonment Board. And the door-to-door data was collected by enumerators until September 10.
Now the photographs and fingerprints of possible voters are being taken in each voter registration centre in the city.
Currently, according to the EC, there are over 5.1 million voters in Dhaka metropolitan area, including the Cantonment Board and 17 union parishads.
Of the voters, 2,288,387 are in Dhaka North City Corporation, 1,807,285 voters in Dhaka South City Corporation and 62,428 at Dhaka Cantonment Board. Earlier on May 15, 2014, the commission started the three-phase countrywide voter list updating with an estimate of having 4.6 million fresh voters.
Bangladeshi citizens who will turn 18 on or before January 1, 2015 and the eligible Bangladeshis who missed the current roll are now being included in the new voter list.
