Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) former lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi, already sentenced to eight years in jail with pecuniary punishment for tax-dodging, now faces a graft case along with his detained wife.
The charge hearing in the case takes place today (Sunday) at the makeshift special court trying high-profile corruption suspects, set up at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city, reports UNB.
On March 21, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with the Gulshan police station accusing Lobi, also former president of Bangladesh Cricket Board, and his wife Khushnud Asgar of concealing information in their wealth statement submitted to the ACC.
The Lobi couple amassed wealth worth about Tk 250 million (25 crore) seen as "disproportionate to their known sources of income", the ACC allegedly said.
On February 6, joint forces arrested Lobi from his Gulshan house and his wife on June 26 from a city hospital.
