Charge sheet against ex-BNP MP Selim, 14 others submitted

BAGERHAT, Oct 3 (UNB): Charge sheet was submitted against former BNP lawmaker MAH Selim and 14 others here in an extortion case.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Sadar police station Sirajul Islam Tuesday submitted the charge sheet to a court.
President of the district Jubo League and contractor Khan Mujibur Rahman on June 21 lodged a case with Sadar police station against Selim and 13 other BNP activists alleging an extortion involving Tk 2.20 million.
Police after investigation added the name of another accused in the case.
The plaintiff alleged that the accused mostly BNP activists, including MAH Selim, demanded tolls under threat from him while he was constructing roads and drains in different areas of the district in 2005.
He said he was forced to pay Tk 2.20 million - Tk 1.0 million by cheque and Tk 1.20 million in cash - on May 12, 2005.
MAH Selim, sued in a total of 14 extortion and land grabbing cases in capital and Bagerhat so far, was arrested by the members of joint forces from capital on March 7.
Earlier, police pressed charge sheet against a number of BNP activists, including Selim in four more extortion cases.
