Over a dozen charge sheets in graft cases, mostly against politicians like Mirza Abbas, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, HBM Iqbal and Shajahan Chowdhury, are ready and may be submitted even within this week, depending on the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) approval, reports UNB.
"More than a dozen of charge sheets in graft cases against corrupt suspects are ready. If the Commission approves, all of these can be submitted even within this week," a competent source at the ACC told the news agency.
The individuals against whom the charge sheets are going to be submitted include former Works Minister Mirza Abbas and about 25 others, including three secretaries, Jamaat leader Shajahan Chowdhury, former BNP MP Rasheduzzaman Millat, former State Minister for Communications Salahuddin Ahmed, Awami League leader Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, former AL MP HBM Iqbal, businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun and his brother former BNP MP Hafiz Ibrahim, BNP ward commissioner Chowdhury Alam, former MP Mufti Shahidul Islam, former BRTC chairman Taimur Alam Khandaker and former chief conservator of forest Munshi Anwarul Islam.
Apart from Abbas and Munshi Anwar, according to the source, all the other cases were filed against the suspects for acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income and concealment of information in their wealth statements submitted to the Commission.
Charge sheet will be submitted against BNP leader Mirza Abbas and about 25 others in the case filed earlier for selling RAJUK-owned houses at a very low rate. Among others, the names of three secretaries are also going to appear in the charge sheet. The first information report (FIR) was actually filed against about a dozen of people, including Abbas and 11 others. But during investigations the involvement of more people was found.
Charge sheet against former BRTC chairman and BNP leader Taimur Alam Khandaker will be submitted in a case filed against him for alleged corruption in recruitment.
Meanwhile, charge sheet will be submitted today (Sunday) against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's political secretary Mosaddek Ali Falu and 15 others in a case of misappropriation of relief materials.
Replying to a query, the source said the Commission had approved the submission of charge sheet earlier.
