July 22, 2015 00:00:00

A Shillong court has framed trespassing charges against BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed after he pleaded not guilty. Judicial Magistrate KML Nongdri on Wednesday said he will begin hearing the prosecution witnesses from July 30. The BNP joint secretary general, facing legal action for entering India illegally, is currently out on bail granted by a court in Shillong, the capital of India’s Meghalaya state. Hours before Wednesday’s hearing, Salahuddin Ahmed had told bdnews24.com that he was in good health now and would like to return home. "Whatever the court's verdict may be, I want to return to my country (Bangladesh)." He said he had nothing to fear from anyone in his country. Ahmed was booked under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act for entering India without valid travel documents. He was found moving aimlessly at the Golf Link area of Shillong on May 11, two months after going missing from Dhaka.
