Charges not framed against Mir Nasir, his son

CHITTAGONG, Sept 23 (UNB): Former state minister Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin and his son Mir M Helaluddin were produced before a court here today (Sunday) but charges were not framed against them in two tax-evasion cases.
Hearing arguments of lawyers from both sides, Chittagong Divisional Special Court acting Judge Maznul Ahsan fixed October 17 for framing charges against them.
Defence lawyer Abdus Sattar sought time for framing charges as he said they got the certified copies of all documents of the cases very late. Consultation with the accused in the cases is also needed on the matter, he said.
On the other hand, Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Ahsanul Haque Hena prayed to the court to frame charges today (Sunday) as he said there is no provision of giving more than three days time for framing charges.
The court later fixed October 17 for framing charges against them.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Tax Zone (2) Bhuban Mohon Tripura filed the cases against Mir Nasir and his son Mir Helal.
According to the allegations made in the cases, Mir Nasir evaded tax for his property worth Tk 137.90 million from 1991 to 2007 while his son Helaluddin did not pay tax for his property worth Tk 115.90 million from 2001 to 2007.
