An Islamist group has warned that they would not accept the amended constitution if secularism and socialism are restored in it, reports bdnews24.com. Sammilita olama Mashayekh Parishad at a news briefing in the city Saturday also urged the government to cancel the proposed National Women Development Policy and the National Education Policy. The association was scheduled to hold a rally at Muktangan, but they, instead, held the media briefing at a local hotel as the police did not allow them to go ahead with the rally there. "We'll submit a memorandum to the Speaker, urging the government to refrain from restoring secularism and socialism while amending the constitution," Mohiuddin Rabbani, acting secretary general of the association, told the briefing. Calling upon the government to meet their demands by June, he warned, 'or else, tough programmes like general strike will be called from July'. The group's presidium member Abdul Latif Nezami and joint secretary general Khalilur Rahman Madani were, among others, present at the news conference.
