Charge de Affaires of Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Qu Guangzhou said Thursday China stands by Bangladesh to fight poverty.
"Ten per cent Chinese people still live under poverty line… Bangladesh is also a developing country like China and it has a large number of people live under poverty line," he said adding that both countries together can fight poverty.
He was speaking at a discussion programme organised by Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal (ML)on the 65th founding anniversary of People's Republic of China.
He said China-Bangladesh bilateral relationship has got a new height after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to China last June.
He said both China and Bangladesh are developing countries, facing same tasks of developing the economy and upgrading people's living standard.
"Having mutually supplementary economies, the two countries have good opportunities to widen and deepen cooperation in various fields ," he said.
Former industries minister and secretary general of Samyabadi Dal (ML) Dilip Barua presided over the function.
Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury said Chinese people have made great achievements.
She said in international affairs, China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and has become a major force in safeguarding world peace.
"China, as a development partner of Bangladesh, has offered a great amount of aid to Bangladesh. Bangladesh national highway, Bangabandhu International Conference Center, six friendship bridges have become the symbol of friendship between Bangladesh and China," she said.
"Bangladesh will work with China to promote the relationship between the two countries, and work towards a more peaceful and better world," she added.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu said foreign powers should not interfere in the internal affairs of our country.
The minister said it is our internal affairs how we will rule our country. Foreign powers have nothing to interfere in our internal issues, he added.
He further said it is good for other countries not to interfere in our internal matters, he added.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon thanked China for coming forward to help build the Padma Multipurpose Bridge.
Dilip Barua said China has made great contribution to the development of human kind and world peace.
He believed that Chinese people will attain much more achievements in the new historic era.
