Chunnu criticises move to increase electricity prices

Opposition Chip Whip and Jatiya Party MP elected from Kishoreganj Mujibul Haque Chunnu has come down heavily on the government for a hike in electricity and energy prices, reports UNB.

"The government's move will add misery to common people," he said while speaking on a point of order in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

Chunnu also demanded the withdrawal of the government decision for the sake of the people.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid hinted that the government is set to hike electricity and energy prices from the first week of March in its efforts to reduce subsidy bills from the state coffer.

"Electricity prices will go up by 34 paisa per unit," he said responding to reporters at his office at the secretariat.

Chunnu said that people are already in a miserable condition.

"When common people go to the market... there is no control over the price of goods."
