The government has promulgated the Right to Information Ordinance-2008 on October 20 this year through a gazette notification, reports BSS.
The ordinance has been posted on the website of Information Ministry www.moi.gov.bd, an official handout said here Thursday.
As per clause 10 of the Ordinance, it was mandatory to appoint a designated officer to each 'information providing unit' under every ministry, department, directorate and organisation within 60 days of the promulgation of the ordinance.
Besides, every non-government organisation (NGOs) run by government fund or foreign aid, NGOs or private organisations conducting activities under agreement with the government and private business firms supplying goods and services with the public money shall have to appoint an information officer within the same period.
All appointing authorities under the concerned ministries, departments and offices have been asked to appoint the information officer within the 60 days.
