The Citizens' Committee of One Thousand, a platform of city's eminent citizens, appeared on Friday on the street to extend their support for mayor candidates Annisul Haque and Sayed Khokon staging a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, reports BSS.
"People of Dhaka will never vote the BNP-Jama'at forces that forced ordinary people to stay indoors for three months by unleashing a reign of terror killing innocent people using petrol bombs," convener of the platform writer Syed Shamsul Haque told the rally.
A number of professionals, including teachers, journalists, doctors, columnists, writers, poets, artistes, political personalities and freedom fighters, joined and spoke at the rally extending their support to the two Awami League-backed mayoral candidates.
They expressed their firm determination to build a peaceful and modern city by defeating the anti-state forces, including terrorists, militants, fanatics and anarchists.
Member Secretary of the citizens committee Golum Quddus, Major General (retd) KM Shafiullah, cultural personality Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bachchu, journalist leader Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan, Dr Abdur Razzak, MP, Freedom Fighter Ismat Kadir Gama, cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar, Advocate Tarana Halim, MP, among others, were also present there.
