Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah vowed Tuesday to rein in subversive activities, including arson attacks on vehicles using petrol bombs and crude bomb explosions, in the city within a week, report agencies.
He came up with the resolve when newly-elected executive committee members of the Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), led by its president Isaraf Hossain Isha, made a courtesy call on him at the DMP Headquarters Tuesday.
The DMP boss said miscreants have been trying to terrorise the city dwellers through exploding crude bombs and torching vehicles in the capital. "They're burning innocent people to death through their subversive activities."
Later, the DMP Commissioner received a police van, which was donated by a business group 'Nipa Group' for Dakkhinkhan thana.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan urged the people Tuesday to stage protest programmes from 12:45 pm to 1:00 pm tomorrow (Thursday) to resist terrorism, killing and anarchy across the country in the name of hartal and blockade.
He made the call from a rally at the central Shaheed Minar in the city.
The minister prayed for eternal peace of the souls of those killed in sabotages during the hartal-blockade and expressed his hatred to the perpetrators.
He said the BNP-led 20-party alliance is killing people, including women and children, and damaging vehicles. They are destroying the country's economy and the education system, he said adding that the alliance is involved in a plot to jeopardise the independence.
He urged all to take part in the protest programme against sabotage Thursday at their respective areas.
