C'Nawabganj poura chairman faces extortion case

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 15 (bdnews24.com): A case was filed against Shamim Kabir Helim, chairman of Shibganj municipality and general secretary of municipal unit of BNP Thursday on the charges of cheating people and extortion, the police said.
Mominul Haque, a businessman of Daipukuria under the upazila filed the case with Shibganj police station.
Lenin Alamgir, local police chief told the news agency that the case was filed at about 9:30 pm.
According to the case details Helim took Tk 2.8 million (28 lakh) on different occasions by cheating the plaintiff and also extorted Tk 0.7 million (seven lakh) from him.
Joint forces arrested Shamim Kabir Wednesday night on charges of corruption and irregularities.
