Combat over Proshika key: SC puts it on hold

January 25, 2010 00:00:00

The Supreme Court (SC) Sunday put on hold for a week the keys to Proshika head office a day after the rebel Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the major NGO got it by High Court (HC) orders and opened the headquarters, reports UNB.
Upon a petition filed by Qazi Faruque Ahmed, the ousted founder-chairman of the leading non-government organisation (NGO), the apex court passed the orders of stay on the operation of the HC interim directive that had asked the police to hand over keys of the Proshika Bhaban at Mirpur to the CEO.
SC chamber Judge M Muzammel Hossain, in the order, asked the petitioner to file leave-to-appeal application against the HC orders in the meantime.
The apex court orders came a day after Dhaka Metropolitan Police authorities in compliance with the January 19 HC edicts handed over the keys to its CEO.
The HC upon a writ petition filed by CEO Mahbubul Karim had directed the police authorities to hand over the keys to the CEO within two days.
Barrister Rokan Uddin Mahmud appeared for Qazi Faruque Ahmed while Barrister Moniruzzaman Asad stood for Proshika CEO Mahbubul Karim.
