Comilla South BNP council held amid clash: 15 injured

COMILLA, Nov 24 (UNB): Police fired teargas shells and rubber bullets to tame troublemakers as the council session of Comilla South BNP was held Tuesday amid clashes in the district town that left 15 injured, reports UNB.
BNP Vice-President Begum Rabeya Chowdhury was elected president and Hazi Aminur Rahshid general secretary while Mostak Mia organising secretary in presence of central vice-president of the party Begum Sarwari Rahman.
Leaders and activists put up a tight security bulwark around the council venue at Rajanigandha Community Centre as the councilors gathered from the morning.
Meanwhile, the supporters of rebel leader Manirul Huq Sakku took position at Pubali Chattar of Kandirpar. Police were also deployed in the area to prevent troubles.
Apprehending outbreaks of clash, traffic movement was suspended through the area.
"Later, outraged by the declaration of committee, the dissident group attacked police, pelting them with brickbats. Chase and counter-chase took place during the clash that ensued," says a spot report.
At one stage, police fired 10 teargas shells and as many rubber bullets to drive away the rioters, leaving one wounded by bullet.
Police recovered one pistol left in abandoned condition.
