Committee formed to strengthen local government bodies

A seven-member committee formed by the government to strengthen local government bodies by infusing dynamism into their functioning, held its seventh meeting Sunday.
The committee, as part of its series of discussion meetings, exchanged views with the municipality chairmen as well as commissioners including those of the reserved seats to have their suggestions to prepare its recommendations.
Presided over by AMM Shawkat Ali, chairman of the committee, the meeting was also attended, among others, by member secretary Mizanur Rahman, Syed Gias Uddin Ahmed of SUJON, Badiul Alam Majumder, country director of Hunger Project, Dilara Chowdhury, professor of Jahangirnagar University, chairmen of the Bangladesh Municipality Chairman Samity and Bangladesh Union Parishad Chairman Samity as members of the committee, said a press release.
