Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Shafique Ahmed said the martial law rulers' amendments to the constitution after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujubur Rahman were unconstitutional, and for this reason, the Supreme Court (SC) declared the 5th amendment, which legalised the martial law regime, illegal, reports UNB.
The existing constitution has been printed and written as per the SC verdict on the 5th amendment, said a press release of the ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The Law Minister made the comments while speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at BIAM Auditorium in the city Tuesday.
