Construction of Padma Bridge begins by August

The construction works of the Padma Bridge will commence by August this year after finalisation of the appointment of contractor, reports BSS. Communication Minister Syed Abul Hossain Tuesday said this in reply to a question from female lawmaker Sadhana Halder in Parliament. "The Padma Bridge is a priority project of the present government and all important preparatory works including fund raising of $2.35 billion have already been completed," he said. The Minister also said that the design making for the main bridge, river training, access road and bridge and facilities have also been finalised. Besides, he said, most of the affected persons on both sides of the bridge have been paid compensation. Compensation to rest of the affected persons would be given very soon, he said. Syed Abul Hossain said the government also has a plan to construct the second Padma Bridge at Paturia-Goalunda point.
