MUNSHIGANJ, May 21 (UNB): Police foiled Wednesday a preparatory meeting of local BNP in Gazaria upazila in the run-up to party chairperson Khaleda Zia's planned visit to the district on May 28.

Foiling the meeting, the law enforcers also put the upazila BNP office under lock and key.

Syed Siddique Ullah, general secretary of upazila BNP, said they began the preparatory meeting at the party office around 10:00 am.

However, policemen rushed in, forced the BNP men to leave the office and locked it, he said.

In an instant reaction, former deputy minister and district BNP president Abdul Hai said police would not be able to obstruct the public meeting of Khaleda Zia on May 28. "If police and the administration do excess, our leaders and activists will give a befitting reply to this."

BNP chief Khaleda Zia is expected to address a public meeting in the district town on May 28 in protest against the incidents of what they said countrywide abductions, forced disappearances and extra-judicial killings.
