Apparently defending her son Tarique Rahman's remarks about Bangabandhu, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday in a counter-attack asked her arch rival Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina to hold her tongue first before advising others to do so and control her Chhatra League and Jubo League men, reports UNB.
"Even foreigners aren't spared from their (ruling party men's) badmouthing in addition to hurling abuses at us constantly. I want to ask Hasina 'hold your tongue first' before advising others to do so," she said.
Without mentioning her son's recent remarks against Bangabandhu, Khaleda further said, "What we say are facts, based on documents and information."
The BNP chief came up with the remarks while addressing a convention arranged by pro-BNP student leaders of DUCSU and All -Party Students Unity (APSU) of the 90s at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
Responding to PM's remarks, Khaleda said, "I ask Hasina to control Chhatra League and Jubo League so that people can live in peace. You (PM) also hold your tongue. "Though you're a self-declared Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the words you use don't suit your mouth."
The BNP chief claimed she did not teach her sons such indecent language and words and accused the government of having failed to run the state and indulging in widespread corruption and looting.
She alleged that the government, which grabbed power through a 'voter-less' election has destroyed the economy and the country's all institutions and sectors by politicisation, corruption and misrule. "Hasina has goggled up the country and its democracy, and destroyed the country and its future."
Though there has been a bountiful of rice production in the country, the government is importing rice only to plunder public money, Khaleda alleged.
The convention started around 10:10am with former DUCSU VP Aman Ullah man in the chair.
The pro-BNP student leaders of DUCSU and APSU of the 90s, and the current ones from across the country joined the programme.
Meanwhile, Defending party senior-vice chairman Tarique Rahman's assertion that Bangabandhu was a 'Razakar', BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Thursday that their leader's factual remarks have caused heartburn to the ruling party men who care little in making derogatory remarks against others.
Addressing a programme, he also hit back at the Prime Minister (PM) for calling Tarique a 'spoiled son' and asking him to hold tongue, saying she and her party men should exercise restraint in using words against their opponents.
"Do you lose your sense when you (AL leaders) call independence proclaimer Ziaur Rahman and deputy chief of staff of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Liberation War AK Khandaker Razakars? Now you feel the heartburn as Tarique Rahman unveiled the historical facts.
You shouldn't forget the tit for tat," the BNP leader said.
