May 25, 2015 00:00:00

Former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof AK Azad Chowdhury said on Sunday a section of corrupt individuals are involved in graft and cheating people,  reports UNB.

He further said they politicise the matter when graft charges are brought against them.

He was addressing the prize distribution ceremony of an anti-graft debate competition, organised by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at Jatiya Natyashala auditorium in the city on Sunday morning.

Although the corruption perception index (CPI) of the Transparency International (TI) remains questionable, he said, Bangladesh was placed at the bottom of the index for four consecutive years because of some corrupt people.

The educationist said the ACC is an independent body, which is working to check graft. So it should show zero tolerance to the people involved in corruption.

ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman, its commissioners M Shahabuddin and Dr M Nasir Uddin Ahmad and secretary M Maksudul Hasan Khan, among others, spoke at function.
