October 29, 2010 00:00:00

The High Court (HC) Thursday cleared the way for resuming the stalled trial of former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu on charge of stealing CI sheets allocated for distribution as relief, reports UNB.
Delivering the judgment upon a quashing petition, an HC division bench, headed by Justice AKM Fazlur Rahman, declared valid the corruption case filed against Pintu.
On March 26 in 2007, during the past army-backed caretaker government, Hazaribagh police filed the case against Pintu on charge of misappropriating 79 pieces of CI sheet, which were meant for distribution as relief.
Later, the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) after investigation submitted charge-sheet to the court against Pintu.
Pintu faces a number of criminal cases including extortion, land grabbing and BDR mutiny.
Advocate ASM Shahjahan appeared for Pintu, while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC.
