Bangladesh has prepared a country paper on 'Building Trust in Government' that will be placed in a global forum at the UN Headquarters in Vienna shortly, delineating action plans for achieving the designated ends, reports UNB.
The country reached the concluding stage in finalising the 'Bangladesh Country Paper', which will be presented in the 7th Global Forum in Vienna from June 26-29 on the theme of 'Building Trust in Government'.
The process reached its final stage Sunday through a National Level Consultation Workshop organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)-funded project 'Developing Civil Service Capacity for 21st Century Administration'.
Earlier, three consultation workshops were held in Sylhet, Rajshahi and Khulna divisional headquarters with government officials, business leaders, civil-society representatives and other stakeholders, starting from the local to national levels.
In line with the 7th Global Forum, the overall objective of the country-consultation workshops was to sensitise people on the need for "sound governance and pro-poor public administration" in Bangladesh.
The specific objectives are: To discuss key issues in strengthening governance and public administration to enhance service-delivery in government;
To discuss key issues in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs);
To provide a platform for introducing field-level experiences in government reinvention and seek a framework and strategy for future innovations in governance and public administration in Bangladesh;
To promote cooperation among government, the private sector and civil society organisations to improve the quality of governance at national and local levels;
To identify potential areas to be improved and taken action at the local, divisional and national levels to enhance the capacity of the country for participatory and transparent governance; and
To lay the foundation for a "Bangladesh Network for Reinvention" which interconnects the key players in governance - government, business, and civil society.
