Highlighting the significance of democratic practice, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the country's political and economic future depends on the upcoming national election, report agencies.
He was addressing an extended meeting of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila and Ruhia thana BNP executives at District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Tuesday.
He urged party leaders and activists to act prudently in the coming days, warning against repeating political mistakes that could lead to the return of fascism.
Neither the people nor they (BNP) want to see fascism again. The sooner the election is held, the faster the national crisis will end, Fakhrul said.
The leader stated that BNP has agreed to the National Consensus Commission's proposal to hold the general election and a referendum on the same day.
