Court orders freeze on bank accounts of ex-MPs Shubid, Bahauddin, Anwarul

A Dhaka court has ordered to freeze a total of 59 bank accounts of former Cumilla-6 lawmaker AKM Bahauddin and former Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Anwarul Ashraf Khan over graft allegations, reports BSS.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Thursday, allowing separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Confirming the matter to newsmen, ACC deputy director (public relations) Akterul Islam said the court ordered to freeze 29 bank accounts and attach 15 decimal plots and a house of former Cumilla-6 lawmaker AKM Bahauddin.

The court also ordered to freeze 30 bank accounts and attach 2.41 acres of plots and a flat in the capital's Gulshan area of former Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Anwarul Ashraf Khan.

Another court ordered to attach 17.79 acres of plots, owned by former MP Major Gen (retd) Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan and to freeze 21 bank accounts in his name and the names of companies related to him.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Thursday, following an ACC.

The anti-graft body in its plea said the accused is planning to sell his immovable properties, draw or transfer money from his accounts.

"For the sake of proper investigation, his immovable properties should be attached and accounts should be frozen," the petition added.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has imposed travel ban on former Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) chairman Maj Gen (retd) Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker, his wife Gazi Rebeka Rowsun and four others over graft allegations, reports BSS.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Thursday, allowing separate pleas from the ACC.
