Court records prime accused’s confessional statement

SYLHET, Aug 15: A court in Sylhet Saturday recorded the confessional statement of the prime accused in the case for killing Sylhet city's Madan Mohan College BCL activist Abdul Ali, who was stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon on the college campus.

Metropolitan magistrate Md. Anwarul Haque recorded the statement of Pranajit Das, who was arrested just into hours of the killing from suburban South Surma police station area. He was remanded for 3 days on Thursday.

Angur Miah, student and BCL activist of the same college was also arrested from his village home at village Niamatpur under Doarabazar upozila of Sunamganj district Thursday morning, informed the police.

He was nabbed in line with the confessional statement of the prime accused.

Severely stabbed Abdul Ali in the hands of Pranajit and others Wednesday afternoon succumbed to injuries at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Ali's father Aklis Ali on same night filed a case accusing Pranajit and 9 others.

The murder took place as Ali demanded return of Tk 50,000, which the fellow BCL men had taken on the plea of providing him job as a police constable a year back, the deceased's family  alleged.

Police was trying to arrest the other killers soon, informed the additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mohammad Rahamat Ullah Friday.
