November 16, 2007 00:00:00

The court Thursday rejected the prayer for remand of BNP joint secretary general Tareque Rahman for interrogation in two criminal cases, reports UNB.
Rejecting the prayer of investigation officer the magistrate Shawkat Ali ordered interrogation of Tareque at the jail gate, if necessary.
Pleading for remand the investigation officer of the cases filed with Gulshan and Dhanmondi thanas said Tareque Rahman was needed for interrogation in presence of his business partner Giasuddin Al Mamun, who in his confessional statement named him (Tareque) as his associate.
Tareque's counsel strongly opposed the remand petition saying no interrogation was needed after nine months of the confessional statement of Mamun.
The court gave its decision after hearing both sides.
