A Dhaka court will hear on March 23 (Sunday) the bail pleas of three BNP leaders, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in three cases, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Magistrate Zahurul Haque fixed the date Tuesday after their lawyer M Sanaullah Miah had filed the bail petitions with his court.
The two other BNP leaders are standing committee member Mirza Abbas and Dhaka city unit member secretary Abdus Salam.
Earlier, another Dhaka Sunday sent the three BNP leaders to jail rejecting their bail petitions in the three cases, including that of a murder, in connection with an arson attack on a bus during the then opposition's blockade programme before the national election.
On January 3, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at the Gulistan-bound bus from Abdullahpur in Paribagh of the city during the blockade programme, leaving its passengers Shahina and Farid and driver Babul Hawlader injured with burns.
Later, Shahina and Farid succumbed to their injuries.
Three cases were filed with Ramna Police Station in this connection.
On February 20, the High Court (HC) granted bail for eight weeks to the BNP leaders. However, responding to a government petition, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court overruled the HC order on March 9.
