A delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at a meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday said their country wants to see political stability in Bangladesh for a meaningful development, reports UNB.
"China had earlier made its stance clear that it wants to see political stability in Bangladesh so that its democracy can be strengthened and development can be meaningful here. China is still on the same stance," said BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan.
He came up with the remarks while briefing reporters after a meting between BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the CPC delegation.
The hour-long meeting that began around 4:15 pm was held at the BNP chief's Gulshan residence.
Guo Yezhou, vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC central committee, led the delegation at the meeting.
Dr Moyeen said various issues relating to current political situation in Bangladesh, mutual interests of the two countries, China's various development projects in Bangladesh and ties between CPC and BNP came up for discussion at the meeting.
He said BNP has a deep relation with China and CPC as they also do nationalist politics like BNP.
Mentioning that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had initiated the country's bilateral ties with China, Moyeen Khan said the subsequent governments have strengthened it. "China is our tested friend. We need to deepen the ties with the country further."
Khaleda files petition with High Court
BSS adds: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia filed on Monday a petition with the High Court (HC) demanding a rejection order on recording statement of the complainant in her absence in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
The petition was put on the cause list to hear in a division bench of the HC comprising Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan.
"A special judges' court in Dhaka on May 25 last rejected Khaleda Zia's plea filed for seeking rejection of recording statement of the complainant before a Dhaka court as it was taken in her absence. A criminal revision was filed with the HC against the order," defence counsel Barrister Ehshanur Rahman Taj told newsmen.
"We also sought stay order on the proceedings of the graft cases at lower court until disposal of the petition at the HC,' he added.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of a special court on the premises of Dhaka Alia Madrasa in old Dhaka also stayed recording depositions in the cases until June 18.
"The court recorded deposition of the complainant as Khaleda Zia did not turn herself before the court on May 5 defying the court order," ACC lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kazol told the news agency.
