CHATTOGRAM, Jan 02: A court here has rejected the bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former Iskcon leader and a spokesperson for the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote.

The Hindu monk was arrested in a sedition case filed with the port city's Kotwali police station against 19 persons on October 31 on charges of insulting the national flag.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam gave the order on Thursday morning.

Advocate Md Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan, public prosecutor of the court, confirmed the rejection of the bail prayer of Chinmoy.

On November 26, the court denied Chinmoy bail and sent him to jail.

The date for bail hearing was due for December 03. However, the date was rescheduled for January 02.

Mr Bhuiyan said, "The Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court rejected bail after hearing a plea."

Defence lawyer Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharya said, "We've conducted a bail hearing on behalf of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. I informed the court that there was no insult to the national flag."

"I'll go to the High Court against this order," added the pleader.

Around 10:30 am, a team of 11 Supreme Court lawyers reached the Chattogram court to participate in the bail hearing of Chinmoy.

Security was beefed up in the court area to this end.
