CUET closed sine die

 CHITTAGONG, Jun 17: All classes of CUET (Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology) were suspended sine die following clashes between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the campus today.

A meeting of the deans of faculties, heads of departments and senior teachers announced the decision and asked the male students to leave the campus within 12.00 noon and female students within 5.00 pm today.

The curricular activities will remain closed until further order but classes of the post-graduate students will continue, said Dr Rafiqul Islam, pro-vice chancellor of the university.

In the notice of the university authority it was stated that two groups of the university's BCL, student front of the ruling Awami League, clashed on the campus Monday night over witnessing the World Cup football.

Two joint conveners of the organisation were severely injured in the clash.

BCL joint convener Shamin Talha Jim was chopped severely allegedly by another joint convener Moslem Uddin and his followers. Jim was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Following the clashes the situation on the campus turned volatile, authorities said adding that the classes were suspended to avoid any untoward incident.

Curriculum activities will resume when the situation turns normal, the CUET authority said.
